I am Dr. Srinivas Reddy Pallerla, Genomics Scientist and technology enthusiast currently residing in Germany. To give a background, I have a bachelor's degree in pharmacy and a PhD in molecular and developmental biology. In the following nine years after my PhD, I worked as a post-doc in different laboratories in the field of genomics and bioinformatics of infectious diseases and functional genomic studies in mouse models.
RESEARCH INTERESTS: Coronaviruses, Therapeutics, Pandemics Host-pathogen genetics, Virology
CURRENT STATUS: Postdoctoral Research Scientist AG TOPTAN Institut für medizinische Virologie, Paul-Ehrlich-Straße 40, University Hospital Frankfurt, 60596 Frankfurt am Main, Hesen, DE
SKILLS in NEXT-GENERATION SEQUENCING and BIOINFORMATICS Sequencing methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) developed:
SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequencing (WGS) (Illumina and ONT) for screening and phylogenetics.
Bacterial WGS (Illumina and ONT) for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) screening and surveillance.
16S rRNA sequencing (ONT) - bacteria in CSF samples of meningitis patients and gut microbiota.
Molecular biology: Next-generation sequencing library preparation, isolation of DNA and RNA from cells/tissues, design of primers and probes, PCR, qPCR, molecular cloning (Gibson assembly, TOPO™ cloning, Gateway™ cloning bacterial and eukaryotic protein expression vectors, CRISPR-Cas9 vectors, recombineering technology method for generating targeting vectors)
Cell biology: Extensive cell culture experience, liposome transfection, production of Shh conditioned medium, generation of primary and mouse embryonic stem cell lines from tissues
In vivo techniques: Generating transgenic and knockout mouse models, mouse maintenance, handling and breeding of mouse models
Biochemistry: Western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, insitu hybridization and immunofluorescence
Independence: Took responsibility to lead research projects, designed and assisted in writing the proposals, developed experimental assays
Teamwork: Successful teamwork led to several publications, both during my PhD and the postdoc; I enjoy meeting with colleagues for progress reports and share feedbacks about each other’s research, taught/learnt new techniques to/from colleagues and collaborators
Leadership and management: Planned, led and managed research projects, coached PhD and rotation students and was involved in their day today supervision and developed problem solving ability
Lab capabilities built: Computational, training, next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics
Networking: Initiated in making connections with potential collaborators, participated in collaborative networks/projects (JPIAMR, PANDORA and METASUB)
Attention to detail: Organized my work and made sure that they are completed in a timely manner, peer reviewed scientific publications, manuscripts and grant proposals
